GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY RUN HAND BY HAND WITH SPORTS EVENTS IN GREECE

Global Recycling Day, March 18th, had its honors during two separate sports events in Athens,Greece.
INSTITUTE TEAM FOR THE WORLD, an ngo-npo focusing in bridging sport, environmental protection and sustainability has organized the recycling schemes in APHRODITE CUP,an international rhythmic gymnastics tournament and the ATHENS HALF MARATHON, both held on the 18th of March.
During APHRODITE CUP, a thorough packaging and paper recycling program has been implemented , in one of the biggest indoor halls in Athens. Gymnasts, spectators and officials were informed and followed the recycling streams. This tournament is one of the very few in  gymnastics globally to have endorsed an integrated environmental agenda encompassing, recycling, environmental awareness raising and social sustainability actions.
In the frame of the ATHENS HALF MARATHON, the Green Team of the event, put together on a voluntary basis by INSTITUTE TEAM FOR THE WORLD, has manned the recycling stations along the 21,3 Km , 5Km races and “collected” more than 1.4 tons of PET plastic water bottles used by the more than 20,000 runners,  which were forwarded for final sorting and recycling.
